15 of The Best Sci-Fi Weapons from Movies

Science-fiction movies are always filled with the state-of-the-art gadget and devices, and cool weapons are among them. This time we try to choose 15 of the best weapons from movies, which you probably will never see on real life. Remember that the list only includes sci-fi hi-tech weapons, not something with mystical powers or mechanical triggered. So, don’t ask why Green Lantern’s ring, Thor’s Mjolnir, Frodos’ ring, Harry Callahan’s Smith & Wesson, or Dastan’s dagger of time aren’t on the list.

 

15. Green Hornet Gas Gun

Available in: The Green Hornet (2011)

User: Britt Reid (played by Seth Rogen)

Power: As a superhero without any super power, billionaire Britt Reid uses his rich to create various gadgets and weapons, and gas gun is one of his favorites. With unique design, this weapon uses a mini gas tube as an ammo, and when shot to target, can makes the target paralyzed for a while or sleep up to 11 hours.

Risk: Similar to firearms, user need to aim precisely to hit the target. This gadget also useless if enemy wears a gas mask. At least when the Green Hornet misfire , he won’t hurt anyone.

 

14. Neuralyzer

User: Agent J (played by Will Smith) and Agent K (played by Tommy Lee Jones)

Power: The MIB agents use pocket-sized devices known as “Neuralyzers” to wipe witnesses’ memories of what they have seen, and replace the memories with more mundane explanations. This device emits a very bright beam, that only someone who wears sunglasses will be able to resist the effect.

Risk: It’s very easy to operate. So, if someone, such as a child, accidentally activate this weapon, everybody within its range will lose their memories.

 

13. EM-1 Rail-Gun

User: John Kruger (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger)

Power: The EM-1 rail-gun fires its rounds at the speed of light, and it’s also attached with an X-ray scope that lets the wielder not only see through walls, but clothes, skin and bone too.

Risk: This is a heavy-duty weapon that only a person as hunky as Arnold will be able to carry it everywhere. Besides, if it can see through clothes, won’t it become a great distraction?

 

12. Heat-Seeking Bullet

User: Sgt. Jack R. Ramsay (played by Tom Selleck)

Power: Based on Michael Crichton’s idea, heat-seeking bullet can lock onto an individual human target’s unique heat signature, pursuing them wherever they run – even around corners.

Risk: The user probably will be ashamed to carry this gun, as it looks pretty oversized and old-fashioned (hey, it’s 1984!). But the real threat will be from the fact that the smart bullet still can be confused if there are multiple heat resources around the target.

 

11. The Self-Destruct Mechanism

User: Predators

Power: The hunter race Predator has a samurai’s honor. They will kill themselves if they were defeated by enemy, or if they think they can’t win. They will activate a self-destruct mechanism in their arm, and then blow themselves up, takes the enemies along with them if possible.

Risk: The weapon has no risk for its user, as it can only be activated by alien codes that only they understand. Without the activation, the bomb won’t go off, even when they’re on a fighting and receive big impact. The problem is for the surrounding, as its explosion radius are unpredictable, which is a threat even for their own race.

 

10. The Noisy Cricket

User: Agent J (played by Will Smith) and Agent K (played by Tommy Lee Jones)

Power: The Noisy Cricket is a conclusive prove that good things most certainly do come in small packages. It packs one heavy fireball. Combining the two useful tricks of blowing shit up and blasting you backwards at great speed.

Risk: The big “kickback” effect. Users need to check their behind first, to make sure they won’t crash or hit something hard.

 

9. Prawn DNA Rifle

User: Wikus van de Merwe (played by Sharlto Copley)

Power: Another weapon with alien technology, this is a long-barrel rifle with laser ammunition and a very high destruction-power. It can only be activated using the “Prawn” alien DNA.

Risk: This rifle can’t be used by a human, except if they’re willing to inject the alien’s DNA into their blood, which will slowly turn them into the prawn. Keep your human look or destroy your enemy, which one is gonna be?

 

8. Point-of-View Gun

Available in: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

User: Marvin the Paranoid Android (played by Warwick Davis), Tricia McMillan (Zooey Deschanel)

Power: When used on someone, it will cause them to see things from the point of view of the person firing the gun. Doesn’t sound dangerous? Well imagine if the user is someone with chronically-depressed point of view like Marvin the Paranoid Android, the target will not finding a point to life any more.

Risk: If you’re not depressed, then there’s no point of using this weapon. Except if you want to share joy, spirit, or love. Then it wouldn’t be categorized as a weapon, isn’t it?

 

7. Exploding Chewing Gum

User: Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise)

Power: This red and green colored chewing gum looks like an ordinary bubble gum. But it actually an explosive, which can be used for lock-picking, create a diversion, or directly kills the target when attached to the right spot.

Risk: Needless to say, this device can’t be put recklessly. People, especially children, might think that this is an actual chewing gum, as the explosive looks just like it.

 

6. The Lawgiver

User: Judge Dredd (played by Sylvester Stallone)

Power: The Lawgiver is the standard weapon for law enforcement in Judge Dredd’s world. It shoots six different kinds of bullets, each with its own specialty. The Lawgiver encodes the DNA of the wielder onto each round fired, and will explode if someone else try to wield them.

Risk: The Lawgiver reads the owner’s fingerprint, and it will explode if someone else try to use it. Because the owner’s DNA also encodes to each bullet, it also can be used to frame the owner for a murder, just like what Judge Dredd experienced.

 

5. The Orgazmorator

User: Joe Young (played by Terry Parker)

Power: Attached to the Joe’s hand, The orgazmorator shoots a laser beam that instantly makes its target achieve orgasm, gaining victory without blood. No men, women, or even a frigid person, can withstand the effect.

Risk: Never use this weapon for cure impotence, because when it uses to many to a single person, the orgazmorator makes someone’s balls fall off. This happened on Joe’s enemy, a porn film director that turned into Orgazmo’s arch nemesis, Neutered Man.

 

4. Armored Personnel Unit

Available in: The Matrix Revoultions (2003)

User: Captain Mifune (Nathaniel Less)

Similar can be found in: Aliens (1986), District 9 (2009), Avatar (2009)

Power: Also called as mech or exosuit, it first appeared on Aliens as a crate-lifter machine. The user will enter the mech and has a fully control with both hands and feet. In The Matrix Revolution, the robot was installed with 30 mm machine guns, which makes it more destructive.

Risk: Can you believe that the giant armor has actually no armor for its pilot? You can see that the cockpit is virtually unprotected. It also might be very difficult to stand up, if the pilot ever been in a sprawl position.

 

3. Iron Man’s Armor

Available in: Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010)

User: Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey, Jr.)

Power: Super armor, super strength, hand beam repulsor, flying, artificial intelligence. Iron Man’ armor is similar to mech, but it’s designed more like a body suit, which makes the wearer can move with more agility and can control the armor more freely.

Risk: It relies much on computer and AI. When the AI goes wrong and berserk, it can take control of the armor, which makes Tony Stark completely helpless inside the suit.

 

2. Lightsaber

Available in: Star Wars franchise (1977-2005)

User: All Jedi and Sith

Power: Lightsaber consists of a polished metal hilt which projects a blade of plasma about 1.33 m long. The lightsaber is the signature weapon of the Jedi order and their Sith counterparts, both of whom can use them for offense, or to deflect blaster bolts. The lightsaber’s blade cuts through most substances without resistance. It also leaves cauterized wounds in flesh.

Risk: Unlike sword, lightsaber doesn’t need a momentum to destruct thing. So, it can creates wound just by touch the beam. Because of the danger, this weapon only recommend for Jedi and Sith with proper training, and not advised for human who doesn’t have a “Force” power.

 

1. Universal Remote Control

User: Michael Newman (played by Adam Sandler)

Power: What, not a weapon you said? Okay, this thing can stop, slow-motion, skip, and mute, just like any other remote control. But instead for TV, this gadget affects human and life, meaning you can skip event that you don’t like, or stop a person’s movement with a single click. What weapon can be more powerful than this?

Risk: Too many unpredictable factors if someone really want to use this device. Skip event doesn’t come with “back” feature, meaning you’ll lose your age when using it. Then, imagine if you stop a person and you drop this remote and break it. Will the person be freed, or he/she will be stay still forever?
