It's not every day we can start a story by telling you we have exciting news about nobody — but today we most assuredly do have exciting news about Nobody. As reported by Deadline, Bob Odenkirk has closed a deal to return as government-assassin-turned-family-man-turned-assassin-again Hutch Mansell in Nobody 2, the forthcoming sequel to Ilya Naishuller's rollicking 2021 geriaction thriller. And what's more, Indonesian action-horror filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes For Us, Headshot) has been tapped to direct.
Whilst Tjahjanto's hiring marks Naishuller's departure from the Nobody franchise, John Wick creator and writer Derek Kolstad — who penned the first film — is back for the follow-up, having written the sequel's screenplay alongside Aaron Rabin (Jack Ryan), Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem (Kate). As for what we can expect from Hutch's return, plot details remain tightly under wraps at present. However, as you may recall, the first film's tantalising post-credits sting saw Hutch — having just seen off the Russian mob alongside brother Harry (RZA) and father David (Christopher Lloyd) — making a fresh start with his family in a new home, only to receive a mysterious phone call that very heavily suggests our man Mansell is back in the gun-for-hire game for good. Presumably we'll find out who's on the other end of that line in Nobody 2. (And we're guessing it ain't Dominos!)
Whether or not RZA, Lloyd, or any of the other stars of the first film will be back for Nobody 2, only time will tell. But luckily for us, it's not going to be a mighty long wait. Production is expected to begin on Nobody 2 later this year, with the film currently circling a 15 August, 2025 release date. And with Odenkirk having long since made a full recovery from his shocking heart attack back in 2021, there's no stopping the Better Call Saul actor — who's already set to re-team with Nobody writer Kolstad on Ben Wheatley's Normal, which shoots later this year — now. And honestly, who'd want to? Not us, that's for sure.
