So far in 2024, few films have had as impressive a marketing campaign as Longlegs. The new critically-acclaimed horror from director Osgood Perkins announced itself to the world by… well, not really announcing itself. Instead, US distributor Neon released a series of super-creepy, super-cryptic teasers gesturing to the film’s serial killer code, accompanied by haunting images and a general air of impending terror. But, for UK audience, the real terror came from not know exactly when Longlegs would arrive here. Thankfully, we have an answer – and after some hugely positive early word, audiences here can look forward to the film arriving this summer.
It’s been confirmed that Longlegs will hit UK cinemas on 12 July – meaning there’s only about a month to wait to see what Perkins has cooked up. That’s the same day as it gets a wider release in the US, meaning everyone can join the conversation around the film at once. The film stars horror favourite Maika Monroe (of It Follows, The Guest, and Watcher), as well as Nicolas Cage in uber-scary murder-mode, and sees an FBI agent on the hunt of an occult serial killer. By all accounts, Longlegs will go down as one of the scariest films of the year – so horror-heads, get that date in your calendar. Also staring in the film are the likes of Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, and Kiernan Shipka. And while Longlegs hasn’t hit the screen yet, Perkins is already well underway on his next film – Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which has already wrapped shooting, and stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany and Elijah Wood. Expect that one in 2025. For now, between Longlegs, MaXXXine, Trap, A Quiet Place: Day One, and Alien: Romulus, the summer of horror is about to get well and truly underway.
