All is not well in Westeros in House Of The Dragon. But, it appears that all is very well in Westeros in the eyes of HBO – not only was the first season of the Game Of Thrones prequel spin-off a sizeable hit, unspooling the origins of the Targaryen civil war, but it seems the network-slash-streamer is happy with what’s to come in Season 2. Because, before a single episode of the second batch has arrived, the news comes in via raven: House Of The Dragon is officially returning for Season 3.
The adaptation of George RR Martin’s fictional historical tome Fire & Blood unspools the knotty familial entanglements that led the dragon-toting Targaryens to self-destruct. And after the decade-hopping events of Season 1, showrunner Ryan Condal will continue to map out the considerable… well, fire and blood that follows. “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House Of The Dragon,” says HBO’s Head Of Drama Series, Francesca Orsa. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
More details on Season 3 are under wraps for now – rightly so, given we have the eight-episode Season 2 to watch first. Stay tuned to see which characters remain alive and un-charred by the end of this run, in order to get a sense of which stars will be returning down the line. Now, who’s Team Black and Team Green?
