My Comments About 2010 Oscar Best Picture
Nothing Important Here, Just My Thought
First of all, why I’m commenting on the best picture category only? Because I haven’t got the chance to watch a lot of movies in other category, including the ones where the best actor and actress played at. Even in this category I only watched half of them; Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Up, District 9, and Inglorious Basterds.
I kinda disappointed when Avatar lose to The Hurt Locker, not because the movie was bad or because I don’t like female director. The main reason would be because I hoped after 6 years we’re gonna have another fantasy movie wins the Oscar. Yes, the last of this genre who won the best picture was The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers back in 2004.
Moreover it would be nice to see a movie that succeeded in commercial also have success in awards (Avatar won the Globe of course, I didn’t undervalue it), following the footsteps of Slumdog Millionaire, RTOK, A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, and Titanic. As we knew, The Hurt Locker only scored a little more than $21 million in box office, gains a small profit from its $15 million budget.
Why did I care?
For two reasons, first because I want to see more of sci-fi/fantasy genre that not only spent a lot of dough in the making for nothing. Movies like Surrogates and Transformers 2 were only good for my eyes, obviously not for my mind (and soul, maybe
). If Avatar won the Oscar, I hoped I can see a lot of something like it or Star Trek in the future.
Second, because I love a movie by small studio and the one that have a fresh cast. They often produced a good movies. I only hoped they’ve a little more balanced between idealism and a story that can be enjoyed by a lot of audiences. The Hurt Locker was good, but obviously less entertaining. A low budget is not a reason why a movie can’t get a lot of profit and well received by the critics and audiences. This year we have District 9 ($30 million budget, more than $200 million gross revenue), last year we have Slumdog Millionaire ($15 million, $377 million), or Saw in 2004 ($1,2 million to $102 million!).
Whatever it was, Avatar and The Hurt Locker are both an exceptional films, so do the rest of movies that I’ve watched. 2009 was very satisfactory for me. Besides those movies, I enjoyed Star Trek, Wolverine, Hangover, and Sherlock Holmes.
I just hope 2010 is gonna be better. I’m still waiting Clash of The Titans, Iron Man 2, Prince of Persia, The A-Team, and Ridley Scott-Russel Crow reunited in Robin Hood. Because, up till this month, I still found no movie worth remembering.

Hmm…too bad there weren’t much of a quality movies that have a sexy actress on its cast of characters.
