The Story:

After finally catching serial killer and occult “sorcerer” Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his assistant Dr. Watson (Jude Law) can close yet another successful case. But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again.

Review:

I’m a big fan of Sherlock Holmes novels, and after watched this movie I can’t determined which one I like best, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes or Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes. They are look like the same character with a slight different of personality and attitude.

While the original Sherlock Holmes character was more serious and have a more mysterious personality, in this movie Holmes was more open-minded and playful. One thing in common, they were both genius in their own way.

About the plot, until the half of the movie, I was a little disappointed, because I thought the mystery was involved with magic and superstition. But the late part was proved me wrong, we can see a case-solving deduction a la Sherlock Holmes.

One thing about the riddles and mysteries in this film, you’ll need to think hard to follow Sherlock Holmes explanations, because he said it very fast. Doesn’t matter if you watch this movie at DVD ’cause you can always playback, will be a problem if you watch it in theater. Well, I guessed this was a part of Guy Ritchie’s directing style.

My last words, if only Academy Award has a Best Actor in Comedy category, I think Robert Downey Jr. would win it, like he did in Golden Globe few months ago.

By the way, do you like the classic England scenery in this movie? If someday you’re interesting to visiting this country, you might want to check a beautiful cathedral city called Salisbury. Spend some nights in Hotel Salisbury, which located in easy walking distance of the city centre shops, Cathedral, museums and amenities.
