Shutter Island
This one is a delightful brain teaser
The Story:
Two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

Review:
If you’re not familiar with Martin Scorsese’s movies, you might find yourself a hard time to follow this film. Nonetheless, if you’re a fan of thriller genre with a lot of plot twist, you’ll enjoying this one very much. This one pretty much is a one man story, focusing on how Teddy conducts his investigation of a missing inmate in an isolated island.
Leonardo DiCaprio acted superbly in this movie, make other actors just like a cameo, even Oscar’s winner Ben Kingsley seem didn’t have enough proportion to showed his acting quality. As the investigation of Teddy ran, he found one clue after another, made him even more confuse of what really happens on this shutter island. He started to doubt his partner, his mind, and trust no one, including himself.
This movie is over two hours long, but you won’t feel boring about it. Started a little bit slow on first half, the tension become higher and higher until the ending. You just have to focused your mind for better understanding about the plot. Sometime Scorsese trapped you with something that looks like an important clue, but rather meaningless in the end.
If you’re the kind of audience that like to guessing the movie’s ending, you might gonna meet some surprises in this one. Watching the end, there are gonna be two possibility, either you’re gonna love it or hate it. I’m not gonna spoil it all here, but the psychological explanation about what’s going on with Teddy character is to hard for general audiences to accept.
Last, if you’re bored with hack n’ slash horror or thriller lately, this one will definitely satisfied you!
